Image of a boy with montage of images of scaled down letterboxesThe BPMA has an enormous collection of original letterboxes and street furniture, but we also have many miniature replicas which are just the right size for handling (cotton gloves and magnifying glasses supplied!) and closer investigation.

How much has the letterbox changed in the last 150 years? We've got different coloured ones, in lots of different shapes and sizes. Do you think you could come up with any improvements? Have you noticed the Royal Cipher on the front that shows who the monarch was when a letterbox was made?

Come along to our Letterboxes in Miniature afternoon and find out more about different types of letterbox through history. Have a go at designing and making your own, complete with a personal cipher that shows your initials, and add a photograph and description of your work to our online exhibition.
