The Royal Mail Archive is open for the public to use and enjoy. It is based at Freeling House, Phoenix Place, London WC1X 0DL. This is also the main office for The British Postal Museum & Archive as a whole. The British Postal Museum Store is located in Debden, Essex.
Visiting The Royal Mail Archive - the basics
The Visit the Archive section has information on opening times, getting here, our facilities and more.
You do not need to make an appointment to see most of the archive material we hold (except for philatelic material). However, as with any archive, it is always a good idea to contact us before your visit to find out if we have records that could be useful to you.
Please remember to bring some identification on your first visit e.g. a driving license or passport, to get a Royal Mail Archive user card.
Why not make your first visit one of our friendly introductory talks? Come with a friend and see behind the scenes at the archive. Dates for these events are all given in What's On.
Visiting the Museum Store
You can also visit us at the British Postal Museum Store, but usually only on our planned Open Days during the summer. To find out about Open Days, take a look at What's On.
Our collections
To find out more about our holdings, visit the Collections section, or use the online catalogue.
