Grant awarded for construction of Victorian post office

We are pleased to announce that the BPMA and The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust are to receive a £126k grant for the construction of a replica of a working Victorian post office.

Disability History Archive Day

The British Postal Museum & Archive will be holding an open day called Disability History Archive Day from 10.00am until 5.00pm on Saturday 13 September in our Search Room at Freeling House, Phoenix Place, London. WC1X 0DL.

Wiki update - BPMA Wiki now has limited availability

The BPMA Wiki is now available as much as possible during office hours.

Due to excessive abuse on 12 July 2008, the BPMA Wiki has been temporarily disabled.

Preservation Microfilming July 2008-August 2008

22 volumes will be going off site for preservation microfilming and will be unavailable from 25 July to 27 August 2008.

Screenonline Archive Interactive about GPO Film Unit now online

We have been working with Royal Mail, the British Film Institute, BT and BT Archives to produce an online interactive tour of the films made by the GPO Film Unit. This tour is now available on the Screenonline website.

New records added to online catalogue

We now have 70,083 records on our online catalogue as a result of a recent upload. These include holdings from both the Museum and the Archive Collections.

Celebrating Sylvia Pankhurst

An exhibition at the Redbridge Museum recently featured an ‘A’ type Edward VII pillar box from the BPMA Collection. The exhibition, entitled ‘Celebrating Sylvia Pankhurst’ opened 7 April 2008 and runs until 21 June 2008.
