Detail from 1912 telegram about the sinking of the TitanicThe basis for the Messages Through Time pack is the study of documentary evidence. The Royal Mail Archive contains this 'raw material of history'.

Each document is an example of correspondence that exists as primary evidence, hence 'messages through time'.

The first theme in the pack picks out two types of evidence - envelopes and telegrams - which teachers can use to develop pupils' skills of historical enquiry.
