The Dunklings

Charles William Dunkling and his sons, were all civilian postal staff. They were members of the Post Office
Rifles and served in France
during the First World War. Incredibly, they all survived.
Charles began his postal service as a ‘boy sorter’ in 1890 eventually retiring as a superintendent in 1930.

The picture is of Charles' son Albert Edward Dunkling, displaying his two
wounds stripes, 1918.

This picture was taken in 1914,
(Albert is the first on the left) at a camp at Abbots Langley (Hertfordshire).
All of his companions were killed in action. Albert died in
1968.
