Stamps in Schools - free visits to your school

Stamps in Schools is a free service to primary and secondary schools throughout the UK. The project provides links with the curriculum at Key Stage 2 and 3 through the medium of stamps, and an idea for a new hobby for children and a new club for schools.

During a 'stamp day', children are taken into the wonderful world of stamps – learning about the history of stamps and being introduced to the idea of starting their own stamp collection.

The session typically lasts for about an hour, and one or two class groups are involved.

Stamp days feature:

• An exhibition of stamps that will appeal to children
• A presentation about the Penny Black (the first stamp)
• Stamp-themed activities
• Information on how to start a stamp collection
• Advice and support for schools wishing to set up a stamp club

Stamps in Schools is a volunteer project co-ordinated by retired teacher Erene Grieve. The BPMA sponsors Erene's work, which has been widely praised for its success in engaging children in schools across the UK. Find out more about Stamps in Schools in our Projects section.
