Montage of images of Post Office places

The Post Office is responsible for ensuring the delivery of mail across the whole of the UK. This means that evidence of its activities can be seen across the country. London is the heart of the mail network and many Post Office buildings were located in the heart of the City. Such was the significance of the Post Office in this area of London that St Paul’s tube station was initially called Post Office.

Outside London the Post Office also plays a significant role in the localities. Many local Post Offices are in interesting, if less grand buildings than those in London. Some are in local shops and others operate from the postmaster’s house.
