It's that time again where the world seems to have developed football fever. To mark the occasion Royal Mail are issuing their newest set of stamps, World Cup Winners, on 6 June 2006.
In anticipation of a great football championship we have found stamps relating to 'the beautiful game'.
As we all know, the 1966 FIFA World Cup was was the only time that England, who were the host nation, won the competition. There have been some valiant attempts since then, but to no avail. Could 2006 be the year that England's luck changes... or does Wayne Rooney's broken foot signal four more years of waiting?
The following stamps from the World Cup Football Championship stamp issue were released in June 1966 - just in time for the start of the competition.

A version of the following stamp was issued in June along with the stamps above. However, it was re-released in August in honour of England's World Cup Football Victory. The only change was that the new version now bore the words 'England Winners'.

Bobby Moore was England captain in 1966. One of the most famous images from that day was of Bobby Moore wiping his muddy hands clean before shaking hands with The Queen and holding aloft the Jules Rimet trophy.
This stamp is from the European Football Championship stamp issue from May 1996. It shows Bobby Moore playing for his club, West Ham United.
