The Postman's Knock late 19th century
Hear this page read aloud

The top of the front sheet is damaged but wording indicates that the song was dedicated to "Sir Rowland Hill, late of the General Post Office". Hill left the Post Office in 1864 which helps us date this piece of music to sometime after this. The front cover design is similar to that on the 'Postman’s Polka' of 1853, but the uniform has altered: it now consists of a blue coat with red trim (introduced in 1861).
The music is for piano with voice and was composed by W T Wrighton with lyrics by L M Thornton.
