The Eden Project in Cornwall opened its doors to the public in 2001.
The project took about two and half years to construct and consists of two large transparent domes housing plants from around the world. The first dome recreates a tropical environment, whilst the second dome recreates a more Mediterranean climate. The project is continually developing and the latest addition is an education facility called The Core which opened in September 2005.
Receiving more than a million visitors since its opening, the Eden Project has fast become one of England's most popular attractions.
The above stamp, showing a glorious yellow sunflower, was issued in August 2000 as part of the Millennium Projects stamp issue.
